Look at my car!

My car is amazing! Give it a lick! Mmm! It tastes just like raisins…

After much considerations, I have actually bought a car. It is a 1996 Subaru Impreza, clocked at just over 250,000 kilometres – 253977 kilometres to be precise. Which is the worst part of it. But oh well, … There are worse car still around. And getting spare parts in NZ for Japanese cars is easy, as they are quite popular.

That’s because of a thing called “NZ new”. You see, those Japanese cars, often get imported already used in Japan. But once they are in New Zealand, they are NZ-new. So basically new.

The most consideration about which car to buy, I probably but into thinking about, if I want a hatchback or a station wagon. But since I tend to be very indecisive, I just took something in between: The Subaru Impreza. Not as long as a station wagon, but still more space in the trunk (to have to option to camp in there) than a hatchback. We will see how that works out.

The Subaru is an automatic, which makes driving a lot easier, as switching gears with the left and all, could be quite overwhelming again. You know, like when you first drove in driving school. But now, it’s just cruising along…

What I found amazing, is how easy it was to change ownership of the car. If I had a NZ driver’s license I would have been able to do that online. Instead I had to go into a PostShop, fill out a form and 10 minutes later, I did my part of the ownership change. When I was at the seller, she just went online and filled out the online form. Zack feddish. My car.

Insurance was just as easy, get a quote online and buy it immediately. Car insurance in NZ is actually fully optional. But still recommended and with 200$ for 12 months not that expansive, I guess.
