A trip into Wye Creek Valley.

I started the track from the car park on SH6. The track would have led to Lake Alta, but that would have been a 8h+ one-way walk. But because the weather is currently to cold for camping, I could not go there, as I had to return to the car before sun down.

The track started with an ascend of about 1.5h through the woods, loosely following Wye Creek up into its valley. I passed a small hydro station, large rock walls, which are popular amongst rock climbers and … trees. I don’t know. xD

Once it got more level, I had to cross Wye Creek, which I nearly didn’t dare, but one doughty jump later I was on the other side. Following the creek on some quite narrow and slippery (due to ground frost) ridges, the valley opened up more and more.

After a left turn, I was finally able to look up the length of the valley and was stunned by the view. The mountains to the right side of me, were in full sun, with snowy tops and a nearly golden colour beneath the snow line. Unfortunately, the pictures don’t do the beauty of it justice…

I followed the valley another 2.5h, I think, through a mix of high bushy grass, stingy flexes and open, stony areas, before I paused for lunch on a big boulder and returning the same way I came.

On my way down, I followed a pipeline, that led from the hydro station to another stream coming down the mountains. I sat down near the water fall for a few minutes, to enjoy the last sun of the day and have a tasty apple. Sadly, it wasn’t a tasty apple, but a bad one, which was already rotting from the inside. 🙁 But the sun made up for that none the less. 🙂
